The link between domestic violence and neglect

There is a strong link between domestic violence and neglect. 

Children who are exposed to domestic violence are at an increased risk of neglect, as caregivers who are involved in abusive relationships may be unable to adequately care for their children due to their own physical and emotional injuries, as well as the demands of the abusive relationship.

Children who are exposed to domestic violence may also be neglected as a result of the abuser's attempts to exert control over the victim and the family. 

Abusers may try to limit the victim's access to resources and support, making it harder for them to meet the needs of their children.

Additionally, children who witness domestic violence may be neglected due to the trauma and stress they experience, which can interfere with their ability to form attachments and trust, as well as disrupt their development and overall well-being.

It's important to address both domestic violence and neglect in order to protect children and support families. 

This may involve providing safety planning, counseling, and other support services to victims of domestic violence, as well as addressing the needs of the children and providing them with the necessary resources and support to heal and thrive.
