Tongue-tie and eating disorders

Tongue-tie and eating disorders

Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions characterized by abnormal patterns of eating and behaviors related to food.

They can include conditions such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder.

There is some evidence to suggest that tongue-tie may be associated with eating disorders, particularly in children.

For example, a study of children with tongue-tie found that they had significantly higher scores on measures of eating disorder symptoms compared to children without tongue-tie.

In addition, difficulties with eating and swallowing associated with tongue-tie may contribute to eating disorder behaviors.

However, it is important to note that tongue-tie and eating disorders are two separate issues, and more research is needed to understand the nature of this relationship.

If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms of an eating disorder or has been diagnosed with tongue-tie, it is important to speak with a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation and treatment.

Eating disorders can be serious and can have serious health consequences if left untreated, so it is important to seek help as soon as possible.
